You found an excellent way to make a noun out of an adjective, for your personal use. Your story reminds me of the way my brother and I did the same thing, way back in the fifties:

Both of our parents had jobs outside of the home, which was a sharp contrast to all the other households on our block, where all the kids had mothers who stayed home all day.

As a result of our situation, we were tasked with lots of household jobs such as cleaning and cooking that needed to be done by the time our parents came home after work. There were, therefore, many things we could do that the other kids could not do because they didn't have to do it.

To make ourselves feel better about ourselves in comparison to the neighbor kids, we called them the helplesses.
