Thanks for coming through with what has always been the loud complaints from my friends who live and work in DC, and have to struggle with the out-of-towners who just can't seem to manage to learn the Metro:

"Stand right, walk left."

I live in San Francisco, where I sometimes use BART, the system on which your Metro is based. A huge difference is that the Metro folks learned an awful lot from mistakes made on BART. The singlemost important of those is that many of your stations have THREE escalators! That makes so much sense! That way, in the unlikely incident of one of them breaking down (🤣), there are still two in working order. And, at the very least, the broken-down escalator is still a usable set of stairs.
