Thank you for this. It caught my attention because I am now in Spain, enjoying five days in Barcelona, followed by five in San Sebastián.

As for the euro notes, it seems to be the same in so many places! For that reason, in order to avoid getting €50 notes, I usually withdraw €40 from the ATM. If I try for €60 because I want 3 x €20, it's not going to work: I am going to get €50 + €10. So I am sticking to €40 at a time.
