Sounds like you are living in what you know to be the perfect spot for you, and that counts for a lot!! What is an ideal way of living changes for each of us, doesn't it?

I certainly resonate with your value of being able to walk to the grocery store. Where I live in my city, there are two large grocery stores within a ten-minute walk from home, and I love that.

By contrast, I have just spent a week visiting a friend who moved to Palm Springs. One afternoon, after lunch, some friends dropped me off at the grocery store that was closest to my friend's home. My goal was to walk to his house from there, as part of my daily walk to achieve 10,000 steps or more. So, yes, I got in my steps, and that walk took almost an hour. AN HOUR! to the nearest grocery store.

That is certainly not for me, especially when you consider that for at least half the year, that walk would have to be under the blazing sun and a heat of more than 110º.
