Lots of words and phrases come along that are either difficult to define or are understood in different ways by lots of people.
From what I can tell, "woke" has the meaning that "politically correct" used to have, in that it is associated with being aware of how one's actions affect others.
We don't seem to use "globalization" as much as we used to, but it was another concept that was understood in various ways.
Also lots of imprecise words, like the way that the ending of the word "alcoholic" has been lifted to mean an addiction to things other than alcohol: "workaholic" and "chocoholic" come to mind.
And, from "Watergate," how the "-gate" suffix gets added as a means of indicating a scandal of some sort: "pizzagate" and "bridgegate," for example.
