I've come to the same conclusion as you - no homework - but for a different reason. Not because it's discriminatory, but because it takes away time during which children can work on independent activities like building things with blocks, or drawing, or doing the kinds of explorations that appeal to them.

For my last dozen years or so of teaching first grade, the only "homework" I assigned was for students and parents to read together as often as possible. I sent home a paper on which they could list books that they read, but that was about it.
