I understand that people would find it unbelieveable that I have never gotten stopped speeding or dealing with police wherever I have been. It makes sense to question that, especially if you drive in many places.

First off, I don't enjoy driving very much. I have had a license since I was 17. During my 75 years of life, I have owned cars for only 7 years, when I was ages 47 to 54. So owning a vehicle is not typical for me. I happily live without one.

I was once stopped for speeding, right here in my home town. So, yes, that has happened.

But in all the traveling I have done in my visits to 100+ countries, I have never driven a vehicle outside of the USA. I have always preferred to rely on either hitchhiking (when I was younger) or on public transportation.

I fully understand that there are many people who approach driving as symbolic of their freedom to go wherever they want to go. For me, driving in a foreign country would not enhance a visit; it would destroy it.

Add to that the fact that my greatest enjoyment is in cities. So I can happily skip by the areas between cities when I am on a train or bus. I go city-to-city without spending time in the in-between spots.

Thank you so much, Rob, for responding to my inquiry.
