I recently wrote a fan letter. I am contemplating another one. I can explain.

I am an amateur painter. In order to take out my acrylics, I need an inspiration of something or other. In fact, I chronicle my motivation in a piece I recently published here on Medium:

https://medium.com/bouncin-and-behavin-blogs/ive-been-paying-more-attention-to-my-art-than-to-my-writing-29512088c6ef

In any event, I located the website of the artist whose painting inspired me. I sent him an email to tell him that he inspired me; I thanked him for that.

To date, several weeks later, I have not heard back from him.

The other fan letter I am contemplating has to do with a much more famous person: Carole King.

Our mothers were friends. Sometime around 1968, after Carole had written several songs sung by others, but before she was known for singing her own songs, her mom was visiting my house and asked me if I knew who Carole King was; I did not.

I want to write to Carole, tell here about how, the following year, I heard her singing her first big hit ["I Feel the Earth Move"], and then checked in with my mother to see if Carole King was the singer/songwriter that Genie [her mother] had asked me about.

I'm not so sure that I will ever write that letter.
